Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice continues to inch its way toward that coveted category of the top 10 highest grossing superhero movies of all time. This past weekend it snagged the No. 11 slot, with a substantial $319,501,603 total gross — just a million more than Iron Man, now No. 12 with $318,412,101.
However, the statistics mavens over at the-numbers.com have calculated the Top 10 Supes Movies as well, and they record their numbers after adjusting for inflation. Considering that difference, Batman v Superman is still only No. 14, five spots below Iron Man.
The first installment of the saga starring Robert Downey Jr. hit theaters in 2008. Counting up its total earnings since then and adjusting for inflation, it's earned a whopping $374,051,130 in today's US dollars. As the most recent superhero film on the black, Batman v Superman stays put at $319,501,603.
It's early days yet for Batman v Superman, which has only been in theaters for one month. Once it's been around for almost eight years like Iron Man, it's likely it'll climb a bit further up the chart.
Marvel's The Avengers and The Dark Knight are looking pretty safe for the moment, sitting in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots, respectively, atop both the normal and inflation-adjusted charts. It'll be interesting to see just how far Batman v Superman manages to climb in the coming months.
