No, this isn't a dream and you're not seeing ghosts. Just in time for the new Ghostbusters remake, Coca-Cola has announced they are bringing back an old favorite just ahead of the film's release. Fans of the retired flavor, Hi-C Ecto Cooler, are in for a real treat, as it is set to return to shelves.

Ecto Cooler debuted in 1987 and was officially retired in 2001, but '90s kids have created somewhat of a cult following around the flavor. Hi-C parent company, Coca-Cola, has announced that the flavor will be available once again on May 30, 2016. Some are saying fans of both the flavor and Sony Pictures are responsible for the resurgence.

Charles Torrey, VP of Minute Maid/Hi-C Brands, Coca-Cola North America, had this to say:

“Hi-C Ecto Cooler fueled a pop culture phenomenon that is well remembered and beloved by fans to this day. Sony Pictures was extremely enthusiastic about bringing it back for this special occasion, and the timing of the upcoming Ghostbusters film made this the exact right time.”

The new Hi-C Ecto Cooler will be sold in 10-packs of 6oz. juice boxes as well as 6-pack or 12-pack of 11.5oz aluminum cans. The cans feature thermal imaging that shows green slime when chilled. Shannon Richmond, Brand Director of Minute Maid, Coca-Cola North America says:

“When we decided to re-launch Hi-C Ecto Cooler, we wanted to do more than bring back the nostalgic juice boxes everyone knows…we wanted to offer something new and fun to reward fans who passionately lobbied us to bring back their beloved brand.”

If you want to get your hands on Ecto Cooler prior to May 30th, you can enter a sweepstakes via Facebook by following Hi-C's brand page. You will also be able to purchase juice boxes or cans via

This now serves as the second discontinued Coca-Cola product to return to shelves due to social media lobbying. In 2014, SURGE was brought back after three "millennial males" campaigned online to have Coca-Cola bring back their favorite soda. Let this be yet another lesson to never underestimate the power of social media.
