In the wake of the whopping box office brought in by The Jungle Book this weekend, Disney just announced a slate of nine live-action movies based on popular fairytales. Nine!
Among them is a live-action adaptation of the story of the 101 dalmatians and its black-and-white-haired, fur-wearing villain, titled Cruella. No release date has been revealed, but we know who's going to play Cruella De Vil: Emma Stone.
Stone Set To Star As Cruella
Stone had been rumored to take on the role for a while, and poster designer SG Posters imagined what she would look like as a young Cruella — notice the white streak of hair is absent.
It's an exciting change in Stone's filmography, since she hasn't really played any villains yet.
The Amazing Spider-Man actress is also currently filming the musical comedy La La Land with Ryan Gosling, and is set to star as Billie Jean King in Battle of the Sexes, based on the 1973 tennis match between King and Bobby Riggs.
Are We Even Going To See The Dalmatians?
Considering the title, we can speculate that the movie is going to be more of an origins story for Cruella. It also makes sense with an actress as young as Emma Stone, since Cruella seemed much older when she was around the spotted dogs. Maybe we won't even see the dogs in this movie?
A previous live-action version, based on the original Disney animation, was released in 1996 with Glenn Close in the role of Cruella.
Do you think Emma Stone will make a good Cruella?
