(Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,' as well as potential ones for future DC movies, including Justice League — albeit from the social media account from one of the DCEU's own stars. Proceed with caution and all that.)

Now, under normal circumstances, an actor growing a beard isn't all that much of a big deal. For one thing, it's a pretty common expression of freedom during downtime between movies, with facial hair being dictated by the needs of the role at all other times, to say nothing of the potential need to have a beard for a role.

When you've been playing one of the most iconic superheroes of all time, however, it turns out that your facial hair comes under a little more scrutiny. Case in point?

Henry 'Superman' Cavill Is Growing A Beard, And The Internet Is Freaking Out

Y'see, Henry Cavill just posted the above image to his Facebook page, and amidst all of the very nice recognition of the importance of his fans, he might just have revealed something pretty darned huge.

Specifically, with Justice League currently filming, and that post featuring a whole lot of references to both Superman and the Justice League...

Are We Set To See A Bearded Superman In Justice League?

Now, I know what you're thinking: Wait, isn't the whole idea of Superman being in Justice League at all a pretty massive spoiler, considering the fact that he, y'know, died back in Batman v Superman?

Well, yes, it absolutely is — but only in the sense that saying that Doomsday was in Batman v Superman before it was released counted as a spoiler. Sure, it reveals something that we're going to see in the movie, but it doesn't seem to be something that anyone involved in the movie is all that bothered about us knowing. After all, Cavill is currently posting images of himself training intensely accompanied by the hashtag #JusticeLeague.

If he's trying to hide an appearance — or suggest that he's only going to cameo — then he's doing one heck of a terrible job of it. The big question now, then?

Just What Could That Beard Mean For Justice League?

Well, with Superman having rocked some pretty extensive facial hair on several occasions throughout comic book history, it might mean a whole lot — or nothing at all. After all, when Supes has on occasion grown his beard out in the comic books, it's tended to act as an illustration of his withdrawal from the world (as it did in Man of Steel). That suggests that Cavill could be set to appear in Justice League as a Superman choosing to hide from the world, rather than to return to endlessly-questioned heroism.

What's more, with one of the the current comic book Supermen — who's technically the original DC Superman, transported to the New 52 universe... don't ask — sporting a beard at the moment, there's even the chance that we could see some elements from the current comics hit the big screen. A fancy new black suit (above), perhaps?

Or, y'know, Superman may well stay dead (or at least clean-shaven), and Cavill could just be screwing with us.

We'll most likely find out come the movie's arrival in 2017 — or when it's revealed in one of the trailers.

What do you think, though?
