The Harry Potter cast were all plucked from childhood and catapulted into the magical world of wizardom, so perhaps it's not surprising that a lot of the Hogwarts alumni have had a career change. But some people's new careers are decidedly more baffling than others.
Enter Josh Herdman. Although you probably don't know this guy by name, you will definitely remember his face and role as Malfoy's dastardly right hand man, Gregory Goyle.
After appearing in all eight of the Harry Potter movies, Herdman has decided to trade spells for brutal smack downs by becoming a professional cage fighter. And if you thought he was intimidating as Gregory Goyle, wait until you see him now.
Herdman made his amateur debut as an MMA fighter in Romford, East London this weekend where he beat his Polish opponent Janusz Walachowski in a fight that was a lot more about brute force than beginner's luck.
Although Josh is only just breaking into the cage fighting scene, he is no novice when it comes to martial arts, he explained to Addictedotr.com that:
"I’ve been training traditional Japanese jujitsu for nearly five years and hold a shodan black belt. It’s raw, exciting and unpredictable. I find it more interesting than boxing although I appreciate the beauty and art in boxing. It also made sense to move onto MMA because of my jujitsu training.”
He might be throwing himself into the ring right now, but Herdman still has a passion for acting, although he compared the uncertainty involved in the career path as a huge gamble. He told interviewers that:
"I haven’t fallen out of love with it, I still have an agent and still go for auditions. It’s just a little bit like playing the lottery for a living. I don’t see it so much as a career change, I am passionate about both acting and fighting.”
And the 28-year-old has certainly changed a lot since his days terrorizing Harry Potter and company:
