But while the news is exciting for Canadians, it's also a little bittersweet considering that California has been the home for all five live action Star Trek series filmed over the last 50 years! In fact, according to Trek Core this new series will be just the second Star Trek production to be filmed outside the United States. The other was Star Trek Beyond which filmed in both Canada and the United Arab Emirates in 2015.

The choice to film in Toronto may seem confusing to some fans, but series creator Bryan Fuller has a long relationship with the city. Fuller's series Hannibal was also filmed in the city, along with his current production, the upcoming TV adaption of American Gods.

Filming it yet to commence on the as-yet-untitled series, though the series will supposedly be premiere on CBS in January 2017.
