"Whoever is trying to bring you down is already below you," is something a mother might say to her child whom she guesses, from the downcast eyes and elbow bruises, has been bullied at school. Celebrity parents take protection to a new level by being the parents who, embarrassingly but nobly, turn up at the bully's house.
The famous have to develop a skin of steel to deflect the daily torrent of barbed comments flung by the vindictive press and social media. But sometimes mama's gotta do what mama's gotta do.
Here are six examples of times celebs' moms lashed out at their babies' attackers:
6. Ricky Whittle
The star of The 100 Ricky Whittle spoke out against what was apparently "bullying" professionally from show-runner Jason Rothenberg last month.
He opened up during an interview on AfterBuzz TV in which he claimed his departure from the program, by murder of his character, Lincoln, had been forced because of the working conditions.
Ricky's mom, Mags Whittle, said:
Go Mom! She didn't stop there
Had enough? 'Cos Mags hadn't
Rothenberg responded to the accusation by wishing Ricky "all the best" with his new show, American Gods. Mags would not have approved.
5. Bella & Anwar Hadid
Mother Yolanda Hadid (previously Foster) did not take a liking to people questioning whether her kids, Bella and Anwar, had Lyme disease, an infection that can cause tiredness and memory loss.
Earlier this year, she wrote an article on Bravo TV saying:
I have nothing to prove and know that my journey is public due to the job I've chosen as a Housewife, but I can't accept something so delicate as my children's health being talked about in such a way... It's one thing when your integrity is doubted, spoken of behind your back, but it strikes another cord when it's your children.
It does indeed. Bravo mother Yolanda!
4. Kendall Jenner
Some wackos had beef with Kendall last year, claiming she didn't sweat as hard as other models had to to claim success in the notoriously competitive industry.
Momma Kris was not having people talk to her baby like that. Hell no. She took to Instagram to tell her 12.5 million followers in a lengthy post just how hard Kendall had worked:
A key quote from the essay underneath said that Kendall had acted with:
joy and exhilaration and excitement and professionalism and intensity and focus. She is beyond grateful, feels so blessed and, believe me, so grateful this is her career.
She also jumped to the defense of another of her children on Instagram when Kim was bullied on social media because of posting about her morning sickness meds.
3. Louis Tomlinson
One Direction superstar Tomlinson drew the really mean comments of internet people when his ex, Briana Jungwirth, revealed she was pregnant with his child.
Mommy Johannah did not like the nasty messages. Oh no she did not. She strode to her portable device or laptop and typed in this compelling tweet:
The Polish fellow she tweeted is called SAW JACKS ❤¿? and has a bio saying "congrats for being such an asshole." Johannah sure told him.
2. Zayn Malik
The mamas of One Direction will not have a word said against their babies, which is probably quite difficult with the fame that comes after numerous No. 1 albums. In 2013 some chump sent an aggressive tweet to Zayn, saying he shouldn't be in the group. Trisha Malik wrote:
Hope you’re happy now Zayn noticed your tweet! You can’t even imagine how it made him upset, you psycho.
To another she posted:
you should be ashamed of yourself, plus why do u even follow me if u think 1D would be better without my son? psyco X
Nice one, mama Malik!
1. Justin Bieber
The one who spawned Bieber, Pattie Mallette, has doubtless been forced to stay her motherly instincts daily with the incredible tirade of vitriol her son provokes.
But in 2014, Pattie was tipped over the edge by one commenter who accused her of not sticking up for her son after she had done so for Mariah Carey.
So, Momma Mallette does stick up for the Bieber, she just has to exercise some restraint to prevent her from flying off the handle too often and keep her sanity.
Which mom had the best reaction?
