One of the greatest things about growing up in the noughties for me was being totally involved and engrossed in some of the most iconic Disney Channel releases. Sure, there were the shows — That's So Raven, Lizzie McGuire, The Suite Life, to name just a few — but most exciting of all? The Disney Channel Original Movies.
From Cadet Kelly and The Cheetah Girls to High School Musical and Camp Rock, Disney has created some real cult classics over the years and, believe it or not, has racked up a running total of 99 original releases. That's the right, the next DCOM to reach our screens will be the 100th feature from the House of Mouse's flagship channel, and an announcement yesterday finally let us know what it's going to be.
Inspired by Chris Columbus's 1987 film, Adventures in Babysitting will follow the story of two rival teen babysitters, who accidentally switch phones and lose a child in the process. The movie will star familiar faces, Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World) and Sofia Carson (Descendants) in the leading roles.
It will premiere Friday, June 24 at 8pm on the Disney Channel and in addition will be available for advanced viewing via the Disney Channel app and VOD from June 17. Check out a first look at the movie below.
As if that weren't enough excitement for one day, Disney has scheduled the debut of a brand new series straight after the premiere! Bizaardvark (renamed from Paige & Frankie) will center around two 13-year-old girls writing songs and creating music videos for their online vlogging channel, which streams to 10,000 subscribers.
The series, which will star Madison Hu (Best Friends Whenever) and newcomer Olivia Rodrigo opposite Vine star Jake Paul, is the brainchild of Kyle Stegina and Josh Lehrman, who are both graduates of Disney Channel's inaugural Storytellers program. It will air immediately after Adventures in Babysitting at 9:45pm ET.
