Avengers: Infinity War is only a few years away and it will include an astonishing total of 68 characters. There has been a handful of characters who have been confirmed for the two-part epic finale such as Thor, Scarlett Witch, Star-Lord, and even Nick Fury! Fans weren't sure whether we would see any more of our favorite eye-patched hero after Avengers: Age of Ultron, but we will see him in Avengers: Infinity Wars as he will probably be stationed on Earth with other members of S.H.I.E.L.D. (and possibly the Defenders) while the Avengers and Guardians battle in space. However, as Avengers: Infinity Wars may be his last film, it is not his next film.
Watch an interview with Kevin Feige below where he talks about the fate of Fury's character:
Nick Fury Will Appear in One Film (not Thor: Ragnarok) Before Avengers: Infinity Wars
It is great to hear that we will see Nick Fury in another Phase Three movie besides Avengers: Infinity Wars, because with 68 different characters, his role and screen time can only be so big. Also, it is pretty obvious that Fury would not appear in Thor: Ragnarok (The only reason Feige mentioned he would not appear in Ragnarok is because he just mentioned the movie). Even if Feige did not confirm Fury would not appear in Thor: Ragnarok, it would still be my most unlikely candidate for a Nick Fury appearance. All it really does is eliminate crazy fan theories.
There is only one real question: If Nick Fury is not appearing in Thor: Ragnarok, what movie will he be appearing in? There are four possible candidates: Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, or Black Panther. Some of these movies are more likely than others to feature Nick Fury, so from least likely to most likely, what film will Nick Fury appear in?
Least Likely: Doctor Strange
Doctor Strange is the next Marvel movie after Captain America: Civil War, as it is being released this November. It finished shooting around a month ago and the film is almost complete. If Nick Fury was really going to make an appearance, it would have been announced by now. Also, I think that the Doctor Strange movie is going to be its own entity, as it will not be building up other Marvel Cinematic Universe films. We haven't even been introduced to the character (Doctor Strange) in the MCU yet and it is merely feasible that we will see little to no familiar faces in Doctor Strange. The movie will be different from all the other Marvel movies as it will dive into other realms. Nick Fury is the total opposite of that as he worked for a government-like agency. It is very unlikely that we see Nick Fury in this movie.
3rd Most Likely: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
It may seem absurd that I surmise that there is a greater chance of Nick Fury appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 than Doctor Strange. Well, let's remember that this movie has just recently started production and still has not released their full cast. Also, it has been heavily rumored (due to leaked videos from the set) that during the movie the team will end up visiting Peter Quill's home-world, Earth. If the Guardians go to Earth, there is a pretty good chance Fury will be there to figure out who they are and what they are doing on Earth.
2nd Most Likely: Black Panther
No, I am not saying this is possible just because of the fact that both Nick Fury and Black Panther are black. This movie will have a lot to do with politics and as I have not yet seen Captain America: Civil War, I don't know what he will be up to. However, I do know that Nick Fury keeps his eye on superheroes and will want to know what Black Panther is up to, especially considering Black Panther is doing his own thing but gets tangled up in Cap and Iron Man's mess.
Most Likely: Spider-Man: Homecoming
It is almost indisputable that Nick Fury will emerge in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The movie will show Spider-Man becoming an Avenger and develop into a bigger and better hero. This is where Tony Stark and Nick Fury come in. Robert Downey Jr. has already been confirmed to appear in the film and there is one other major Marvel character expected to show up in the solo Spider-Man movie. Nick Fury is definitely that person, as he is the one in the cartoons and comics who recruits Spider-Man. Iron Man also has a big play in making Spidey an Avenger, so it makes sense. Spider-Man and Nick Fury have a great chemistry together and it would be a shame not to see them on screen together. Considering Avengers: Infinity Wars is Fury's last film and he and Spidey will have little to no interaction is only a bigger reason why Nick Fury should — and most likely will — appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
