Considering Edward Snowden's leaked NSA documents were revealed to the world under three years ago, the production of the biopic, Snowden, depicting his whistleblowing journey has moved at an electrifying pace.

Politically infused director Oliver Stone — who has a CV brimming with biographical epics — has taken on the responsibility of telling the story within the paradigm of Hollywood. The ever likable and endlessly versatile Joseph Gordon-Levitt leads the cast as Snowden himself.

The Trailer Has Officially Leaked!

The first trailer, which you can view above, gives a glimpse at some of the A-list cast who'll be involved in the retelling of the highly charged controversy. Admittedly, it has sprinkled a healthy dose of tinsel town cheese on top, but JGL certainly talks the talk and, under Stone's direction, the early signs are promising.

Snowden is based on the novels The Snowden Files by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena. This won't be the first time the subject has been tackled for the big screen; Citizenfour, directed by Laura Poitras, was released in 2014 and won an Oscar for Best Documentary at last year's ceremony.
