Ever since Disney•Pixar announced that The Incredibles 2 was in the works, I have pretty much been in a state of eager anticipation and excitement. The Incredibles is quite possibly my all-time favorite Pixar movie and I, like so many others, have been waiting a looong time — it will be 15 years by the time the movie comes out — for this sequel to happen.
I have to confess: There is one particular reason I love the movie so much and it's not the plot, the Parr family or the witty one-liners. No, the real reason The Incredibles will forever hold a place in my heart is that it spawned my favorite animated character of all time.
She may only be in the movie for a handful of scenes but the compact costumier doesn't waste any time in letting us all know one thing about herself and her work: NO CAPES. And why not? Actually, very good reason. Her use of capes on costume designs in the past led to the death of at least three different superheroes, one of whom was merely a teenager.
Just imagine the guilt such a thing would lead to — maybe there's a reason she never looks back...
I can't get enough of Edna, so when I came across this super symbolic theory about her on Tumblr, I couldn't wait to share it. Get ready to have your mind blown.
Hell yeah, she did! This theory makes so much sense to me and gives Syndrome's death a whole new, deeper meaning. In case you'd forgotten, the supervillain died from being sucked into a jet turbine by his cape, just like Stratogale had been however many years before.
Suppose the theory were true — and if you can't tell already, I totally think it is — Edna Mode should be considered not as just some minor character added for comedic value, but a full blown heroine and (slightly evil) genius.
I'm definitely hoping this development means we'll see a lot more of Miss. Mode in The Incredibles 2. Just in case you'd forgotten how brilliant she is, you can watch her best bits (let's face it, every bit) in the clip below.
The Incredibles 2 is slated for release on June 19, 2019 and I don't know about you, but I'll be counting down the days until then.
Do you think Edna Mode was the real hero in The Incredibles?
