Despite the fact she is portraying a homicidal, deranged and erratic sociopath in Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is viewed as a seductive sex symbol.

However, in an interview with The New York Times, Robbie claims the character is wearing hot pants "because they’re sparkly and fun" and not because “she wanted guys to look at her ass."

'I'm Eating Burgers At Lunchtime'

The 25-year-old actress — who starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) — also explained how playing the role of someone who is overtly aware of their attractiveness isn't always easy:

“As Margot, no, I don’t like wearing that. I’m eating burgers at lunchtime, and then you go do a scene where you’re hosed down and soaking wet in a white T-shirt, it’s so clingy and you’re self-conscious about it.”

In David Ayer's antihero ensemble piece, Robbie will portray bubble-gum-blowing Quinn in trademark dip-dyed pony tails, heavy makeup, tight T-shirt and hot pants, as featured in the Batman: Arkham game series, as well as DC's rebranded The New 52 series.

Harley Quinn is a popular character in the DC Universe who made her debut in the animated TV series in 1992. She then transferred over to the comics, where she was frequently depicted as a love interest for the Joker.

Robbie will be joined by a large ensemble cast, including Will Smith and Jared Leto, for the antihero epic, starring the collection of DC villains. Ben Affleck's Batman will also cameo in the film.

Suicide Squad is released on August 5.
