If the name Stephen King is attached to any TV or movie project, the odds are it'll be successful. The prolific author has had a wealth of film adaptations that have gone on to be hugely popular.
Despite this, one of his most popular creations, The Dark Tower book series, has been yo-yoing between being turned into a movie and stagnating in development purgatory. But it's good to see that things now seem to be clipping along at a steady pace.
A New Addition To The Cast
It's been confirmed that Katheryn Winnick, best known for her role as Lagertha on the TV show Vikings, has now joined the cast. She adds her talent to the already impressive lineup of Hollywood A-listers including Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba.
The series, which King himself views as his finest work, started with The Gunslinger in 1982 and has a total of eight novels in the collection. The story of the sci-fi fantasy Western focuses on protagonist Roland Deschain (Elba), and his mystical quest to find the Dark Tower.
The movie adaptation will be directed by Nikolaj Arcel, whose previous films include 2012's A Royal Affair, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
Filming for The Dark Tower has now begun, with theater release set for February 17, 2017.
