In line with the success of the Disney's latest live action remake The Jungle Book, four more films were recently announced to have a remake: Cruella (starring Emma Stone), Tinkerbell (starring Reese Witherspoon), Dumbo, and Maleficent 2 (with Angelina Jolie).
It looks like Disney plans to give people what they want and bring the animated classics back through live action adaptation. We couldn't be more excited to see how these classics turn out to be — especially now that Beauty and the Beast is currently on post-production! Now that we're at it, let's give Disney more animated films to adapt in live action:
There have been numerous live action adaptations of Hercules complete with gore, hardcore violence, and mature content on TV and film. Perhaps Disney could make a light version? Okay, so maybe Greek myths + lighthearted live action won't really work. But come on, I know I'm not the only one who wants to see the Muses singing in live action.
The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Other Disney Princesses already had their moment in live action. It's only a matter of time that The Princess and the Frog has its own remake! Aside from the mouth-watering dishes by Tiana, we'd love to see how freaky voodoo magic will play out in live action.
Lilo & Stitch (2002)
Okay, so maybe Lilo & Stitch would be better off as an animated film than a live action one, but as kids we envied Lilo for having an alien for a "pet dog." I'd love to see how Stitch (and the other aliens) would turn out in CGI animation.
Treasure Planet (2002)
The best kind of live action remakes are always about adventure. Treasure Planet was actually based on Disney's 1950 live action film Treasure Island. While Treasure Island was overwhelmed with praises, Treasure Planet unfortunately did not earn the same feedback. Other than the not-so-much appealing concept of pirates in space, hand-drawn animation during that time was slowly dying as CGI animation was rising.
Although Treasure Planet didn't kick it off at the box office, perhaps a live action remake will redeem itself?
Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
If you thought the art direction of Atlantis: The Lost Empire was amazing, imagine how it'll look in live action! The film was notable for its great use of CGI animation as compared to Disney animated films before it. If they pulled it off back then, then I'm pretty sure today's technology can make it even more amazing.
Let's hope one of these animated films will get a live action remake (I'm rooting for Atlantis the most!).
