The Pilgrim begins targeting each of the team members. Gideon uses the Pilgrim's temporal distortions to predict her next move. After they successfully rescue Mick and Sara's younger selves, Gideon loses track of the Pilgrim's movement allowing her to take out any of the team without them knowing. The Pilgrim goes after Ray, but the team arrives just in time to save his former self and prevent Ray's death. Rip decides to abduct the rest of the team's infant selves to prevent the Pilgrim from killing any version of them. They are successful, bringing the infants to Rip's adoptive mother to look after until they can stop the Pilgrim. The Pilgrim kidnaps Jax's father, threatening to kill him and everyone's loved ones, unless they give themselves up to her. Rip decides to give his younger self, before he became a Time Master, in exchange for everyone's life. The Pilgrim agrees, but the team set a trap for her. The Pilgrim is able to freeze the powers and weapons of the team as they attack, but fails to notice Rip's younger self as he stabs her. Distracted, the team is able to destroy the Pilgrim. They return to Rip's mother's house and she promises to look after all the children until they get back. Mick tells his past self to be better and to not blame himself for his family's death. Meanwhile, Ray and Kendra become engaged. Jax warns his father of his death so he can prevent it. Sara talks with Quentin who tells her he is proud of her. Rip tells the team that the timeline is beginning to set and if they do not return their past selves to the right timelines the lives they once knew will cease to exist. They decide to go to 2166 to eliminate Savage once and for all.
This episode probably had the best action sequences on the show. Time manipulation has gone towards the top of the list of most wanted super powers.
Mary Xavier: Rip's adoptive mother who raises orphaned children to become Time Masters. She doesn't think twice to help Rip by keeping the younger versions of the team safe.
The Pilgrim: The Time Masters most skilled assassin take with killing the Legends. She has time manipulation based abilities and was able to easily over power the whole team.
Legends- The mission was to save themselves. The team went back to when they were babies to make sure that the Pilgrim didn't erase them from existence. It was trippy to see these different versions of The characters all in one place. They actually worked as a team this time around.
Rip and Mother Mary- Even though she isn't Rip's real mother, she is the first person we've seen Rip not hide anything from. She did raise him, so she knew right away what he was planning to do. She got a house full of tiny Time Masters in the making and then there are the babies.
Rip and Snart- Snart called Rip out for not telling the team his back story when he knew all of theirs. While Smart had a point, we would probably want to forget some of the darkest times in our lives just like Rip tried to do.
Rip and Rip- Even before he became a Time Master Rip could handle himself. He really meant it when he said to his younger self that he would be perfectly fine. The little rascal was worry about where to stab the villain.
Rip and Stein- When Clarissa began to lose her memories of Stein it worried the hell out of him. Rip assured him that he promised that his marriage would not suffer because of the mission and he would make sure of it.
Ray and Kendra- He almost died so she told him what he wanted hear and said yes to his proposal. He was pretty hurt when he heard her saying that she was second guessing things. Ray made it simple. Either she listen to her heart and stay with him or listen to past version on herself and be unhappy. In the end they remained engaged despite the initial hesitation she had about it.
Ray and Anna- That must have been pretty awkward. He has his 2014 fiance in one room and then was making out with his current one in the hallway. Looks like he is going to have send her back for her impending death too. Savagery.
Kendra and Sara-When Kendra was feeling iffy about the whole engagement to Ray, Sara was there to listen. To get her mind off of thing they then went on an adventure to save baby Snart. Which was a pretty adorable and funny scene.
Stein and Jax- After talking about saving their past selves, Jax told him about his father's death and how it sucked that he would never see the man he has become Stein made it his mission to reunite Jax with his father when he saw him at the hospital. What a guy.
Jax and Papa Jax- This hit the feels box hard. Not only did he get to meet the man his son would become, Papa Jax got to see him turn into Firestorm and light things up. Hopefully Jax's warning will keep Papa Jax alive to see Jax grow up.
Sara and Sara- 2007 Sara is adorable, but comparing her to the current, she's really come a long way. Seeing her argue with herself was super funny, even giving her instructions on how to slap young Rory properly.
Sara and Lance- Lance with hair. He was so confused about what was going on, but he couldn't have been any more proud to see the woman his daughter would become. It is going to hurt like a mother when she gets back to the present to learn that Laurel is gone. Damn.
Rory and Rory- Rory is actually slowly turning into a good guy. We love him as the Rory we've always known but seeing him try to set his past self straight is a move in the right direction. That talk with Snart and seeing everyone else try to change their destiny, he figured he's give it a go.
Booster Gold- Michael is Rip's real name. In the comics he is Booster Gold's son. Michael Jon Carter. It's happening.
Fruit Brute: Who remembers this cereal.
What's To Come/Theories:
According to Rip they have literally run out of time. Now out Legends are about to head to 2166 to take Savage head on, Miller robots and all. They haven't been able to stop the guy on his own, and they have narrowly escaped with their lives in their last encounters. Hopefully whatever it is that Kendra has to use against Savage does some damage. Looks like we are going to get a glimpse of THE mace. Hell yeah. We may also get out first look at Chemo from what we saw in the preview for 'Leviathan'. Does this mean we get to see a giant Ray? Some exciting things are coming! We also got a look into Rip's origins. They hinted at who his father will be and it is said that Booster Gold will be making an appearance at the end of the season.
The show just continues to get better each and every episode. At this point it can really do no wrong, although the team has yet to make progress in stopping Vandal. We still love them because they try. We give this episode 9.8 Waveriders out of 10! What did you think about 'Last Refuge'? Leave it in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
