Great news for fans of the Robert Jordan high fantasy series The Wheel of Time, as it was officially announced that the novels will be made into a television series.

Robert Jordan's widow and editor, Harriet McDougal shared the news with fans on Google+, writing:

Update: Wanted to share with you exciting news about 'The Wheel of Time.' Legal issues have been resolved. 'The Wheel of Time' will become a cutting edge TV series! I couldn’t be more pleased. Look for the official announcement coming soon from a major studio —Harriet

The Wheel of Time series began with The Eye of the World released in 1990 and ended with A Memory of Light which was completed by Brandon Sanderson in 2013 after Robert Jordan's death in 2007.

Altogether the series comprises of 14 books and a prequel novel, and is one of the most famous fantasy series of all time, telling the story of the quest to find the Dragon Reborn and stop the Dark One.

No doubt the TV series will be hoping to have some of the success of other recent TV shows which have adapted fantasy novels including Game of Thrones and MTV's The Shannara Chronicles.

So far there has been no announcement from the studio, but we will bring you the news when it has been officially confirmed.

Are you excited for The Wheel of Time adaption?
