Few could've anticipated the phenomenal success of Deadpool's first solo live-action outing. Sure, fans of the Merc with a Mouth have craved a movie, safe in the knowledge the character would provide an R-rated, uproarious shakeup to the superhero genre.
But not many would've predicted the film's record breaking success. Deadpool has become the highest grossing R-rated movie of all time, having grossed an incredible $760.7 million globally since its release.
All of this success was achieved thanks to the felicitous Ryan Reynold's in the main role, flanked by just two X-Men: Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. With rights owned by Fox, the prospect of a crossover with the X-Men is a real possibility. But what if Deadpool, a Marvel Comics creation, infiltrated the MCU? Could it ever happen?
The Russo Brothers Certainly Think It's A Possibility!
Well, according to Comic Book, during a Q&A session, Captain America: Civil War directors the Russo brothers were asked exactly that. It may seem a pie-in-the-sky concept, but their response was positive. Joe Russo said:
"We'd love to see Deadpool jump into the MCU. But that's probably all I have to say about that."
While his brother, Anthony, expressed the belief that never never means never when it comes to the MCU. He added:
"Yeah, yeah. The great thing about Marvel is that there is an attitude of nothing's impossible... but that doesn't mean everything is possible. You just have to chase it."
I Am Very Turned On Right Now
The prospect alone would undoubtedly be enough to make Wade very turned on; imagine Deadpool trying to fit in with the Avengers, or even teaming up with a live-action Spider-Man. Could it one day happen?
Right now, it's hard to image how Reynold's foul mouthed antihero could fit, but as Anthony Russo says, nothing is impossible.
Deadpool will be released on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital on May 20th.
Could Deadpool ever work in the MCU?
