Supergirl season 1 ended only weeks ago, and fans are still waiting for confirmation on season 2. However this has not stopped the creators behind the show from sharing what is planned for the second series. If the series is renewed they have already confirmed we will see Lynda Carter, who portrayed Wonder Woman during the 1970s, as the President of the United States of America. Today they have revealed what will be playing a major role in the second season of the show, Project Cadmus.

Project Cadmus was mentioned during the first season, but during an interview with IGN the executive producer Andrew Kreisberg confirmed that Cadmus would be playing a prominent part of the story for the second season.

"It's going to remain an evil, specter-y thing that's out there, but it's definitely something that we're going to pursue,"

When asked for details, it was revealed Supergirl's main object will be to rescue Jeremiah Danvers from the facility. Kreisberg said.

"It'll definitely be part of season 2."

With Project Cadmus set to play an important role in the second season, which means we could meet some other DC characters along the way. The two most likely characters to appear are Superboy and Guardian.

Superboy.

Superboy is a half-clone of Superman aged to his teen years by Project Cadmus. Originally created to replace Superman after his death and freed by the Newsboy Legion in the comics, the character first appeared in 1993. The character has appeared in various media outside of the comics and for the most part his origins remain pretty similar to his comic book counterpart. So it is pretty easy to see them introducing him in the series as the government's fail-safe against Superman and Supergirl only to be saved by Supergirl and given a chance to live his life. What will be interesting about this is it would open up the story to allow Kara to succeed in an old mission, to protect Kal. While Superboy is not really Kal, she could see him as the young cousin that she was sent to Earth to protect and guide on a new planet.

Guardian.

Guardian is highly linked with Project Cadmus, and to the surprise of some reader has already appeared in season one. His civilian identity James Harper was introduced in episode 17 "Manhunter" as a colonel of the U.S. Marine Coprs.

This differs from his comic book counterpart who was cop instead, but the character continues to have close connection to the organisation in the first season. The character was seen at the end of the episode arresting both J'onn J'onzz and Alex with plans to deliver them to Project Cadmus. With his failure to succeed in his mission to deliver his captives to the facility could be what makes him turn into a 'Guardian' for the organisation.

Even without confirmation of the second series, the creators clearly have it all planned out. By announcing news such as this will firstly excite fans and secondly put pressure on CBS to renew the show.
