Ultra-talented director Lucile Hadzihalilovic is back with her first feature film in ten years with beguiling slow-burn horror Evolution, hitting the UK in May via IFC midnight (US release yet to be confirmed). Check out the Evolution trailer, synopsis and poster.

THR offers an intriguing write-up of the fantastical, eerie plot:

The pared-down story focuses on Nicolas (Max Brebant), a 10-year-old who lives with his mom (Julie-Marie Parmentier) in a remote coastal village populated only by similar mother-son pairs. When Nicolas isn’t sneaking out to explore the gorgeous coral reefs nearby — in which he claims to have seen the dead body of a boy his age — he’s obliged to consume a regular diet of homemade gruel and mysterious blue medicine.
