While movie goers still enjoying Civil War, several TV spot and last trailer from X-Men: Apocalypse raises some questions, and from what they are showing, it is pretty interesting.
1. Young Mutants Joining The X-Men
We have seen young Cyclops, Jean and Storm in the trailer and TV spot. While Cyclops, Jean and the others (Quicksilver, Nightcrawler and Jubilee) joining the X-Men, Storm acted as Apocalypse horseman. It is unclear how she will change her loyalty, but in the photo the young mutants including Storm appeared to wear their classic outfit. The outfit looks pretty awesome!
2. Mystique Leads The X-Men?
After what happened on Days of Future Past event, it seems Mystique turned himself in to Xavier and warning him about something. "He is coming" Probably warning Xavier about Apocalypse, or perhaps Magneto. How she leads the X-Men remains unclear, and personally I don't like the idea how big budget actress dictate the story line and role. It kind of messing up the whole packaging.
3. Fight and Destruction
From the trailer we have seen a glimpse of destruction, and learned that it came also from Jean's dream. The fight between the mutants seems promising. Cyclops fight with Storm, Beast with Psylocke. Back in Uncanny X-Men issue 201, Cyclops and Storm did have a clash. While Psylocke in the comics usually having a fight with Sabretooth. In this movie she will face against Beast instead, I wonder where they gonna intend to do with Sabretooth?
4. Apocalypse Origin
The big baddie of the film. We have seen the trailer teased a little bit about his origin, how he involved in any historical-ancient civilization. The first mutant ever (said Xavier in the trailer). While fans complaining about Oscar Isaac appearance as the iconic villain, it seems from what we have seen he pulled it quite nicely. The interaction between him and the four horsemen is intriguing. Perhaps we will see the previous horsemen? Because in the comic there are tons (it's metaphorical) of them, including the classic Mister Sinister.
5. That Claw!!!
The last scene of the trailer showing up a glimpse of adamantium laced claw, yes wolverine is in the movie! Confirmed! It is possible that Logan just wake up in Weapon-X facility while at the same time holding Cyclops and Jean (maybe) and help them to get out. This is probably the parallel timeline with X-Men origins: Wolverine (it sucks!!!), the same location (maybe), the same characters involving with a little change (Cyclops and Wolverine). It is just my speculation though.
6. Next Two Movies?
Tye Sheridan in one interview said has signed up for at least two movies after X-Men: Apocalypse. This movement is really interesting regarding how messed up the studio handle the character previously. In the first Trilogy clearly Wolverine overshadowing him. Back then, to boost up The Wolverine: Origins movie, they made cartoon series centered on Wolverine, "Wolverine and The X-Men". Luckily the movie failed (not the cartoon though, it was ok), and they need to rebuild the universe. Thus, the new trilogy appeared and the timeline in X-Men universe amazingly screwed.
Note that they have already made a plan back then for Cyclops, they introduce the young version of him in the movie and later along with Emma Frost (which Emma Frost? How old is she? You will never know, trust me) and the others, they were saved by Prof. Xavier. Although this event seems contradict with X-Men: First Class and the next installment of the movie including Deadpool, in which years back then looks so awful (They make it right in 2016 Deadpool movie though).
7. Timeline for X-Men Universe is Screwed in an Amazing Way!
The idea to rebuild this universe is absurdly amazing. Since they want to live up the franchise, they added time travel scenario to recreate the universe. Although there are some flaws and contradictions, Fox did it pretty well in the last installment, X-Men: Days of Future Past to rebuild the franchise. Further they can redeem themselves for letting the X-Men Origins: Wolverine and X-Men: The Last Stand came and disappointing the fans.
8. The Future
Well, as Tye Sheridan said before, it is pretty amusing to see what this universe has to offer. If they are going to go to build up the young characters in this movie, they might want to use fascinating villain and storyline. As the characters grown up they can recruit new young mutants, so they may establish "New Mutants" title or perhaps "X-Force" with interaction with Deadpool or Cable. Since Deadpool receiving positive feedback from the fans, it is pretty sure Fox want to go with the sequel and maybe appearing as a cameo later on. Also they might want to reconsider to raise the budget (since Deadpool made a hilarious joke about it), so that many characters can be introduce in it.
I hope they make it right. Let's enjoy the movie.
X-Men: Apocalypse premieres May 18th 2016 and May 27th 2016 in US.
