Already back in March, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. received an early season 4 renewal, but as it stands, we have still to hear whether ABC's other series Agent Carter will be making a return.
For the time being, some sources are speculating that a pickup is not completely set in stone. The Hollywood Reporter, for instance, is under the impression that:
'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' spinoff 'Marvel’s Most Wanted' has been cooling and some say it’s not considered the lock it once was.
Similarly, Variety reports:
Though 'Agent Carter' will likely be axed (with Hayley Atwell’s 'Conviction' pilot getting great buzz) — 'Marvel’s Most Wanted' isn’t quite a lock, but has a very good chance of going to series, say sources.
Indeed, the second season of the show boasted visibly lower ratings than its pilot season, making it appear more and more unlikely that Peggy Carter will be making a return for a third run. Additionally, the fact that Marvel's Most Wanted is likely to serve a similar function as Agent Carter is also a factor. Alongside Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., fitting all three shoes into a Tuesday night slot over the summer just seems too impossible.
More on Marvel's Most Wanted and Agent Carter's future will be touched on May 17, 2016.
