Joshua Hoffine makes images that canâÂÂt be unseen. His horror photography is meticulously detailed and absolutely amazing.
HeâÂÂs based in Kansas City, MO, and has been quickly adding fans year after year with a macabre, surreal series of photos that are both incredibly terrifying and hauntingly beautiful.
His most famous photo series, "After Dark My Sweet," focuses on the childhood nightmares we've all had. Who among us hasnâÂÂt wondered whatâÂÂs underneath those basement stairs?
Or behind that bed sheet?
WhatâÂÂs even more interesting about his work is that he uses his own daughters in his photos.
But whether theyâÂÂre being threatened by werewolves, Satan, or a demented intruder, they're always game.
The results are amazing.
Even if the subject matter is the stuff of our deepest, darkest fears.
Hoffine claims his kids are always proud to be featured in his work.
And even if the children in his shots arenâÂÂt his own, as seen below with his sisterâÂÂs newborn, they still do an amazing job.
Hoffine makes sure his children know the situations arenâÂÂt real and that they arenâÂÂt exposed to any danger.
In fact, he describes a photo shoot as such:
âÂÂThey loved it. It was like a giant game of dress-up for them.âÂÂ
"They also knew we were making a scary picture, and loved the idea of scaring the audience as much as I did."
Still, his work extends well beyond his brood. Like this homage to the medieval murderess, Lady Bathory:
Or this terrifying peek through the key hole of your life!
Or an image that Jack The Ripper would approve of, before...
Or this horrific situation that would fit perfectly into a scene from The Walking Dead.
His latest image even features Mermen and actor Doug Jones, thanks to his love of H.P. Lovecraft.
Hoffine has been making these photos for more than a decade, and now heâÂÂs getting ready to publish a book of all of his amazing pictures. You can check out his Kickstarter campaign here.
