Kevin Smith is a decorated film director and self-confessed comic book nerd who rose to fame with the cult classic Clerks (1994). In between his busy work schedule, the 45-year-old recently sprinkled some magic on the TV series The Flash, taking the reins and directing the upcoming episode "The Runaway Dinosaur."

Although Smith's expedition into the world of Barry Allen and friends is yet to air, ComicBook.com has reported that Warner Bros. confirmed Smith will be on set in August, in time to film for the show's third season.

At the time of the announcement that Smith would direct an episode of the hit CW show, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg expressed his delight in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“I literally got a phone call from his agent saying, ‘Kevin Smith’s favorite show is The Flash’ and was there an episode for him and the answer was ‘yes.’ It was really that simple. I know what a fan he is. I’m such a huge fan of his work.”

Before then, though, the prolific director will be back in a flash with a number of upcoming projects, including the recently announced Clerks III, due for release in 2018.

Kevin Smith's guest-directed episode of The Flash will air on May 10.
