Hey comic fans, this is my first time writing something like this so be kind! After keeping up with The Flash over the last few weeks, I've developed a theory on who the man in the mask could be. Take a look and let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

Since the man in the mask was first shown on The Flash's second season, a lot of people have speculated as to who it is. Some say it could be Barry's dad, whilst others some say it must be Ronnie. Some even go as far as to say that it's Wally West. So, as you can see, we are no closer to knowing who the man in the mask is even though he was first shown quite some time ago. For me, I think the one that could work best for the show and is, in my opinion, the most likely candidate is...

Barry Allen: Earth 1

Now, before you carry on reading my theory on exactly why the man in the mask is likely to be Barry Allen from Earth 1, you should know that this contains potential spoilers. You have been warned!

Still with me? Okay! The reason I think Earth 1 Barry Allen is the victim is pretty complex, but it makes perfect sense.

In episode 20, "Rupture", The Flash gets destroyed by what I assume (and everyone else assumes) must be speed-force. Now, if the flash gets stuck in the speed force, he must be able to get out at some point in time. Could it be that the moment in time where he is able to escape is actually in the past? This is no solid evidence that this is the case, but what if he is able to get out of this trap at an earlier point in time - leading to his capture by Zoom, who locks him away and puts on the mask.

"If I told you, you wouldn't believed it'" - Zoom

But why is Barry Allen from Earth 1 even in the mask?

The reason he might be the one behind the mask comes down to a few reasons. For example:

1. If the man in the mask (MITM) is Barry Allen, Zoom will obviously not want the present Barry Allen to know that he will get captured at some point. So, in order for things to happen in a way that suits Zoom, the mask is used to hide his identity.

2. We have never heard him speak because we know that the voice will be familiar. MITM starts to use the tapping to tell the Present Barry Allen about Jay, which leads nicely onto my third reason...

3. The Tapping. Using morse code, this tapping spells out 'JAY', which means this MITM is clearly aware of who Zoom is - but who else knows? Well, as of right now everyone on Team Flash knows, including the current Barry Allen. If Barry knows this before he got destroyed and sucked into the speed force, this means he should still have knowledge of Zooms identity when he gets out and is captured. So, he tries to tell himself that Zoom is Jay aka Hunter.

4. The MITM gets really stressed and agitated when he sees the events that happen before him. This could be because he already knows whats going to happen (as he is seeing things for the second time) and he faces the torture of witnessing these events all over again.

With that in mind, I'd love to hear what you think about this theory. Personally, I really hope something like this does happen as it would be a great twist for the show. Although we are desperate to find out, only time will tell.

Thanks for reading and let me know your theory in the comments below!
