Hey, Horror Hounds. We have new confirmation that Shane Black's The Predator — also more commonly known as Predator 4 — is officially a go. The film is slated to begin preproduction as early as this fall.
The original Predator film is a 1987 American science-fiction action horror film that was directed by John McTiernan. It starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of an elite special forces team who are stranded while on a mission to rescue hostages from guerrilla territory in Central America. Kevin Peter Hall co-stars as the titular antagonist, a technologically advanced form of extraterrestrial life secretly stalking and hunting the group. Predator was written by Jim and John Thomas in 1985, under the working title of Hunter. Filming began in April, 1986 and creature effects were devised by Stan Winston. The film's budget was around $15 million. 20th Century Fox released it in the United States on June 12, 1987, where it grossed $98,267,558.
During the press rounds for his hilarious upcoming film The Nice Guys — starring Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe — Shane Black also briefly discussed his highly anticipated Predator sequel, which is currently set for a March 2, 2018 theatrical release. During an interesting interview with the Agence France Presse, Shane revealed that The Predator would begin filming this fall, as early as September.
News on the upcoming Predator sequel has been scarce lately, with no real updates on the film's plot or casting decisions. The most we know so far is that the film will take place after the events of the 1987 original and will be set in present day. The return of franchise icon Arnold Schwarzenegger is possible and even expected, but currently still up in the air as negotiations take place.
That's all for now, horror hounds. Hope you enjoy the movie when it finally drops. Personally, I love The Predator franchise and can't wait for this new installment.
