Colton Haynes has officially come out of the closet! Don’t worry ladies, all hope is not lost, he has a brother!

Although he’s taken a break from celeb world recently to focus on health, you’ll probably remember Haynes as Roy Harper (a.k.a. Arsenal) on The CW’s Arrow, or Jackson Whittemore on MTV’s Teen Wolf, or — let’s be real — that insanely attractive Abercrombie & Fitch model.

Now, returning to the public eye with a big announcement to Entertainment Weekly, the TV star, 27, has not only revealed his sexuality to the world, but also followed with a big thank you to all his fans for their ongoing support in a heartfelt Instagram post:

Last January, after finding racy underaged photos with another male, a fan commented on Haynes’s Tumblr, accusing him of hiding a “secret gay past.” He replied with a witty and vague response which suggested he’d never seen it as a secret.

Here's the comment:

Haynes was already out and open in his private life, even with his co-stars, but simply did not see his sexuality as important in regards to his career. It was his own business and his intention was to keep it that way — until now.

It didn’t take long before news of the Tumblr reply hit the tabloids. Haynes wasn’t ready and did not know how to handle the situation. Instead, he laid low and let the rumors run wild while he continued to focus on his health despite the pressure. Now, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he talks of the personal process behind his recent coming out:

“It was a complete shock. I wasn’t ready to be back in the headlines.I should have made a comment or a statement, but I just wasn’t ready. I didn’t feel like I owed anyone anything. I think in due time, everyone has to make those decisions when they’re ready, and I wasn’t yet. But I felt like I was letting people down by not coming forward with the rest of what I should have said. People want you to be that GQ image that you put out, but people don’t realize what it’s like to act 24 hours a day. I’d go home and I was still acting. People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world.”

His fans have shown outstanding support with the exception of a few disappointed ladies (and even a Gay for Colton Haynes Tumblr fan page)!

Although the circumstances are unfortunate, given that Haynes was practically ambushed into coming out, a congratulations is in order! He can finally stop acting off the clock and embrace his true self. Or in his own words: “There once was a man who was afraid of his shadow, he met it, now he glows in the dark.”

Do you think celebrities’ sexualities should remain their own business or do they have a social responsibility as role models to be upfront?
