So the first trailer for the upcoming movie based off the video game series under the same name [Assassin's Creed](tag:437814), premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night. Despite the odd choice of adding Kanye West music, it was quite incredible, and it felt very much like watching a cut scene from one of the video games. Except in live-action.
In fact it was so great, I've decided to compile a list of what I feel to be the best moments from the trailer.
Our First Look At The Animus
The animus is the machine that allows the user to access past memories of their ancestors. Early on in the trailer, we get our first look at the new and very different version. In the game, it's always been a chair or table you lie down on, which then you're simply strapped onto. However here, it appears to be a sort of mechanical crane that holds on to you and moves around. Which seems strange at first, but later on it is shown that this time it is used to mimic the users movements.
At some point it is said that this was taking place during the Spanish Inquisition. Seeing that full-scale battle though was quite the shot. The large and epic scale is not surprising though coming from director Justin Kurzel, who was praised for the exact same thing in his 2015 movie Macbeth, which funnily enough also star Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. Seeing how the war plays into the story they are trying to tell with the Assassins and watching them blend both histories together will deliver quite the tale.
This Badass Assassin
Aguilar who? Oh you mean the main character? Forget him, who is THIS person? In all seriousness though I'm very intrigued as to who she is now. We've seen her in promo pictures alongside Michael's character, but have yet to get even a name for her character. It's pretty apparent she'll be pivotal to the plot, but to what extent no one is quite sure. What I am sure of though, is that her busting out those sweet moves definitely caught my attention.
One of the assassin's biggest traits is the ability to move quickly through the terrain, whether it be on the floor, on the roof, or in-between them both. It's good to see we'll be seeing some intense chase scenes, that look to be shot well with a clear view of all people running. Whether it be running, climbing, or jumping, I think we're in for a good time.
Leap Of Faith
Don't act like you didn't see this one coming. I'm sure no one was expecting them to have the guts to include this into film. While it's always been iconic to the series, everyone agrees that it is incredibly unrealistic and anyone would die instantly. However it's nothing short of breathtaking seeing Michael Fassbender's Aguilar leap off of that building. Let's just hope there's a haystack waiting for him at the bottom.
Honorable Mention: The Quote
While I couldn't put it among the five, I feel this needed some sort of recognition. Every fan of the series got chills when we heard the line, let's not even deny that.
Which moment was your favorite? Did I not list it? Feel free to comment your thoughts, check out that trailer if you haven't already (or you just love re-watching it), and vote on the poll as well!
