Spending too much time staring at your phone is rude, and it might be really bad for your health. A short horror film called He's Right Behind You by YouTuber Whereistherockhammer shows just how dangerous.
The terrifying two-and-a-half minutes considers the negative impact of our excessive use of tech, reminiscent of the viral Snapchat short, by revolving around the protagonist's iPhone activity.
The YouTube account from the USA has been releasing short horror movies monthly for the anthology Scary Endings under director John Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is an award-winning indie director and editor best known for another screen-oriented movie, called Skypemare.
If you're a fan of this short Wednesday the 13th you're sure to love He's Right Behind You (lower down):
In the video, a damsel (Camilla Jackson) with the hair of Marilyn Monroe and the accent of an Aussie is chatting to her partner, who is a few minutes away, on her iPhone. Lightning flashes outside.
She receives a message from one of those sketchy numbers called Unknown. But this one wasn't asking her for insurance:
I see you
She goes all bambi-in-the-headlights and creeps towards the door. A floorboard creaks in the corridor.
As she approaches the doorway a shadow flits across the wall. She dashes into the kitchen and plucks a massive knife from the rack.
Then she spots a meat tenderizer. Even better. With that you really crack skulls. She picks up the metal mallet, then receives another text:
I seeeeeee yoooouuuuu
A picture pops up of her holding the knife taken from behind. She screams and wheels around.
With a peal of thunder the entire city is plunged into darkness. Perhaps the attacker has a deluminator.
The woman fumbles on her phone light, gasping with fear, and creeps out into the corridor. The flashlight goes out. Bad time to have low battery!
Mallet at the ready, she tiptoes through the dark.
This time the words are live, hissed:
I see you.
