Tonight's episode of Legends of Tomorrow, 'Destiny', left the audience with many twists and unforeseeable moments. However, there is one twist that stands vastly among the others: the death of one of the Legends. Obviously, if you haven't watched the episode, I would refrain from proceeding as this article will contain massive spoilers for Legends of Tomorrow. If you have watched the episode, you may keep scrolling.
Captain Cold Dies
It's a real bummer that Captain Cold did not make it out of this encounter, as he was just becoming my favorite character on the show. Captain Cold sacrificed himself to destroy the Oculus as there was a fail safe that had to be manually held in place. He did this because he wanted to save the team and make sure their destinies are fulfilled. In the end, his destiny is fulfilled as he goes out as a hero, just as Sara pointed out.
Is He ACTUALLY Dead?
Because this a superhero show, deaths haven't always stayed permanent, especially in the DC-CW television universe. On top of this, Legends of Tomorrow is a time travel show, so it's easy to question the fact whether Leonard Snart is dead or not. Well, apparently Captain Cold is dead, but there is a twist to it. Deadline is reporting that he is no longer a series regular on Legends of Tomorrow but has entered a series regular contract where his duties spread over the different Greg Berlanti DC TV shows, for the time being Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash.
“We always knew that he wouldn’t be a permanent member of The Waverider,” Legends of Tomorrow, Flash and Arrow co-creator/executive producer Greg Berlanti said in an interview with Deadline. “We also knew we loved him on the show and all the shows, Flash as well.”
“What it really emulates to us is the comic books themselves where there really are a cast of characters,” Berlanti said. While Miller, who also has been filming the Prison Break followup, “won’t be part of the team of Legends on board of The Waverider next year, he will have a very active role on the show.”
Wentworth Miller appears to be the first character to be relevant to more than one show. It is very good news that we will see Captain Cold again, and on more than one show! He won't be a member of the Legends though, and we knew they had to make room as the show is adding two new unknown members next season. How big Captain Cold's roles will be are unknown, and are most likely not a huge role as he will be working on Prison Break. The thing is, so will the actor of Heatwave, Dominic Purcell. We will just have to see what happens with this moving forward.
I could see Captain Cold returning from another point in the timeline and appear on Legends of Tomorrow as a guest. For The Flash, it's a bit complicated. He was an awesome villain on that show and he served his purpose. His change of heart on Legends of Tomorrow was even better and his transformation was great to see. Therefore, seeing Captain Cold re-appear on The Flash as a villain would really be odd. However, we could easily meet the Earth-2 version of Captain Cold. So, on both shows, we are still able to see Captain Cold, even though he remains dead.
