Spoiler Alert: If you haven't seen the penultimate episode of the first season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow, titled "Destiny", then go back now, watch the episode and then come back, because we'll be dealing with massive spoilers from the episode. You have been WARNED!

Now that we have got that out of the way, let's begin! Last night on Legends of Tomorrow, we saw Team Legends lose one of its members. Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold played by Wentworth Miller sacrificed his life and died a hero, which as Ray Palmer rightly said, " pretty sure the last thing he wanted to be remembered as." Since, no one really stays dead in the comic book universe and also since the show is based on time travel, we don't know whether Captain Cold is gone for good. Even if Captain Cold is really dead and won't be coming back in the Flarrowverse anytime soon, why would the writers and producers of the show kill off such a fan-favourite character?

Now, this is where it gets interesting. Could The Flash standalone movie be reason behind the death of Captain Cold? The producers of the shows like Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow have mentioned on a number of occasions, that the characters that would feature in the DC Extended Universe are off-limits on the shows. For those of you who don't know, DCEU is DC's Cinematic Universe (which is separate from its TV Universe, unlike Marvel), that kicked started in 2013 with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the upcoming movies like Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Justice League, The Flash and others are all part of the DCEU.

We have previously seen Arrow kill off Deadshot and Amanda Waller, who are being played Will Smith and Viola Davis respectively in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. Maybe the writers were forced to kill off Snart because the big guys at Warner Bros. want the character to be the main villain of 2018's The Flash. Last month, a potential casting call for The Flash movie hit the internet. The characters mentioned in that casting call were Iris West, Len Snart, Eobard Thawne, Fred Chyre and Jay Garrick. Barry Allen and Iris West are two important characters in The Flash comics and there would be no The Flash show without these two characters. But we have seen the show kill off Fred Chyre in the pilot and Eobard Thawne in the finale of Season 1. And the Jay Garrick we had on the show turned out to be Zoom. If they want Leonard Snart to be a part of the movie, Warner Bros. won't allow a show to make him a series regular on one of the shows.

Last night, another news broke about Wentworth Miller, that he won't be a series regular in Season 2 of Legends of Tomorrow but he'll be a series regular in the Flarrowverse, which means he'll keep appearing on all the shows of The Flarrowverse throughout next season at some point or the other. Wentworth Miller is an absolutely incredible actor and he brings a certain charm with him. Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg would be wrong to let go of him. So, even if they can't use Captain Cold as a full time character on a show, they'll make him keep coming back on all the shows. But remains to be seen whether Wentworth Miller will be returning as Captain Cold or as Earth-2's Mayor Snart.
