Fox's new horror series based on William Peter Blatty's horror novel The Exorcist is set to debut later this year, starring Oscar-winner Geena Davis. The first trailer is now haunting the internet, and you can watch it here:

As Exorcist fans could probably tell, the TV series is quite a departure from the novel and William Friedkin's classic 1973 film.

Aside from the stellar use of "Tubular Bells," the iconic theme from the movie, these are all-new elements to the Exorcist mythos; new characters, new setting and a new history. Whether the show will somehow tie into the established characters of Regan MacNeil, Father Karras or Father Merrin remains to be seen, but fingers crossed.

The Exorcist is the latest horror franchise to be adapted into a television show, following Bates Motel, Ash vs the Evil Dead and Damien, and will likely premiere in the fall.
