Whether you've got a girl crush, a friend crush, or a regular crush on Jennifer Lawrence, the whole world is smitten with the goofy, down-to-earth Hunger Games star. But at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Awards on Saturday, Robert DeNiro invented a whole new kind of (wildly inappropriate?) crush for middle aged straight men to have on younger women: the I-wish-we-were-both-lesbians crush.
To put it in context, Deniro was being honored with the Excellence in Media Award for his documentary about his gay father, Robert De Niro Sr. As an honoree, he was able to choose the person he wanted to present him award, and so naturally he chose America's girl-next-door, J-Law.
J-Law technically started the whole thing with a quip about De Niro and GLAAD being perfect for each other because they're both gay. LOL. But mostly, she waxed nostalgic about their father-daughter style relationship, talking about how they meet for drinks so De Niro can dispense life advice. And apparently, De Niro gets drunk and tells J-Law she reminds him of his 4-year-old daughter.
When De Niro finally collected his award, he couldn't resist retorting J-Law's gay joke with one of his own:
"Thank you, Jen. If I were a lesbian, I'd be all over you. Being a father figure has its limitations."
Jen took it in stride, though, laughing it off good-naturedly in front of all those cameras.
Check out both their speeches from the GLAAD awards and judge for yourself whether the comment was cute or totally cringe-worthy.
