CBS is boldly going back to the Star Trek Universe with a new series, and while fans will have to wait until 2017 for its premiere, we finally have our first look at the show.
The network unveiled the new teaser during its upfront presentation at Carnegie Hall, but posted it online for all us non-industry types to view. It doesn't reveal much, but it does promise "new crews, new villains, new heroes," and "new worlds," before unveiling a sleek logo reminiscent of the current film franchise's look.
There's no official word on what form the series will take, though it's suspected the show will follow an anthology format, with different seasons following different crews throughout the Star Trek timeline. That would provide the perfect way to inject the franchise with new energy, carrying on the bright vision of Star Trek while giving fans something original to enjoy. Of course, it would also provide all those "new" things that this teaser promises.
The impending Star Trek series will air its first episode on CBS in 2017 before moving to CBS All Access, the network's on-demand streaming service.
