Last night CBS released several trailers, including a first look at their upcoming TV series MacGyver. Name sound familiar? It certainly should! MacGyver, which is scheduled to debut in the fall, has officially joined the club of rebooted TV series. Let's welcome it with open arms!
The lead role of Secret Agent MacGyver will be played by Lucas Till, most known as Havok in the X-Men prequels. The original version, starring Richard Dean Anderson, first aired in the '80s and released its final episode 24 short years ago. Anyone in need of a refresher?
The synopsis via CBS is as follows:
A secret agent unlike any other, MacGyver escapes perilous situations with nothing but a paperclip, his trusty Swiss Army knife and his wit. A dynamic reimagining of the hit television series, this action-packed origin story follows the young MacGyver as he returns from war, a hero with an idealistic vision of saving the world. He and his late father’s best friend partner to form the clandestine Phoenix Foundation. Using his scientific know-how and resourcefulness, MacGyver—alongside his intrepid team—undertakes missions to save lives and change the world.
Glad to see CBS has kept MacGyver's spirit alive with his unconventionally nifty use of gadgets while throwing in the occasional witty line. This action-adventure show should be a decent crowd-pleaser too, combining that popular CSI-esque intelligence with a unique and nostalgia-inducing protagonist.
Speaking of nostalgia, let's take a look at the original theme song for old times' sake!
