It was the crime that captivated millions. The trial of O.J. Simpson is perhaps one of the most well publicized criminal hearings the world has ever witnessed, with an astonishing 100 million viewers tuning in to see the verdict in 1995.
Although now ingrained in popular culture, the trial of the well-known American Footballer has again risen into the public consciousness since the dramatization the of events were covered in American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson.
In the TV show, acting icon John Travolta portrays Robert Shapiro, who acted as the defense attorney in the case. Ultimately, Shapiro's job was a success, as Simpson was found not guilty of murdering his wife and her friend, Ronald Goldman.
'You Were Right'
Yet those who viewed the trial will recollect a moment when, following his acquittal, Simpson leaned across and whispered something into Shapiro's ear, the content of which has remained a mystery all these years — until a recent interview with the attorney on Fox News.
The 73-year-old said O.J. said to him that "you had told me this would be the result from the beginning," and that "you were right."
Although O.J. avoided the guilty verdict in the trial, he is currently serving a 33-year sentence after taking part in an armed robbery in 2008.
