With [X-Men: Apocalypse](tag:1194267) hitting theaters next Friday and [Captain America: Civil War](tag:994409) out of the way, the promo campaign for Apocalypse is heating up in earnest. Today, the studio dropped a new promo video and, well, it's really adorable.
In keeping with the era and aesthetic of the movie, the official X-Men Twitter account dropped an ad for Xavier's School for Gifted Youngers' summer enrollment that might have been ripped straight from any mid-'80s television commercial. Right down to the cheesy transition effects and precocious overacting.
Newcomer Lana Condor reprises her role as Jubilee in the video, and James McAvoy makes a cameo as Professor Xavier — well, at least, his photos do. As an extra bonus, Stan Lee has a voice-over at the end — and if you call the number, you might get another surprise. Just saying.
(No, but seriously, call the number: 1-800-312-9951)
Also dropping in the promo campaign are four new covers released by Entertainment Weekly, featuring different characters from the movie.
What do you think? I, for one, love the ad for Xavier's school, even if it is full of cheese. Not sure I'm feeling the overly Photoshopped covers, though. Regardless, I'm really looking forward to seeing what the new kids will do with their powers when stacked up against the likes of Magneto and Apocalypse. The last few trailers have played up the wide-eyed rookies vs. seasoned veterans aspect, and I think it's the right way to go as it introduces us to the new characters of the film.
X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters on Friday, May 27.
