The 2016 Cannes Film Festival and its sparkly parade of dreamy gowns is unfortunately coming to an end, but that doesn't mean we can't keep on fantasizing about the best dresses that have graced the red carpet this year.

One actress who's earned a spot in our wildest fashion dreams is Blake Lively, who was at Cannes for Woody Allen's Café Society and has been stunning day and night. A lot of her dresses on the red carpet seemed to come straight out of a Disney movie, channelling the likes of Cinderella and Elsa, but apparently we've got one major detail wrong about her inspiration...

Inspired By A Disney Villain

The actress showed on her Instagram that the perfect smile she's been flashing on the red carpet hasn't killed her goofy face potential. Holding a picture of The Little Mermaid's villain Ursula, she captioned the post:

Everyone thinks I was inspired by the princesses. If they only knew...

Where are the tentacles, may I ask? Because these gowns were way too fitted to hide some extra legs underneath.

Let's take a look again.

Blake Lively's Red Carpet Looks

This gorgeous number by Versace, plus Lively's blond hair, had us seriously fearing that she might turn the red carpet into an ice rink.

Can you see it? It's only missing the choker, but that's not such a bad thing.

People even inserted her in front of the pumpkin-turned-coach, and it just works.

So, where did the Ursula inspiration go? It's got to be the makeup.

Blake Lively was at Cannes with L'Oréal, after all.
