It has been a grand total of seven years since Michael Myers was last on screen in Rob Zombie's Halloween 2. It was that film that left the fans to wonder if there would ever be another Halloween film. Years had passed and it seemed as though nothing was getting done until it was said that Marcus Dunstan had written Halloween Returns, which was to bring the franchise back to its roots. Not too long ago, news broke that Dunstan's script had been canned and was not going to be moving forward. It seemed as though the franchise was, again, dead.

Now, it seems that a Halloween reboot may not be as dead as we thought since word was just released that Jason Blum and John Carpenter are to team up with franchise producer, Malek Akkad, Miramax and Trancas International Films to bring audiences the next installment in the franchise.

At a press gathering, John Carpenter took the stage along with Jason Blum and had announced that he himself had signed onto the new film as an Executive Producer and Creative Consultant, allowing us fans to feel that this new installment will have more of that original Halloween spirit.

Carpenter then went on to say:

HALLOWEEN needs to return to its traditions. I feel like the movies have gotten away from that... Michael is not just a human being; he's a force of nature, like the wind. That's what makes him so scary.

Blum added onto it that saying:

HALLOWEEN is one of those milestone films that inspired everyone at our company to get into the world of scary movies and we are so excited that Miramax brought us together. We cannot wait to find an collaborate with the right filmmaker to give Halloween fans the movie they deserve.

Akkad also added in on the excitement, stating:

Trancas International is thrilled to be teaming up with Miramax on Halloween, one of the most enduring horror franchises in film. We are also very excited to be working with Jason Blum and the whole team at Blumhouse. Together, along with the legendary filmmaker John Carpenter, we are eager to make the film that will be a milestone in the franchise's legacy and that will excite fans, young and old.

This is too much excitement to be had all in one sitting! Although there hasn't been an official release date set for the project, there was a hope for a Halloween 2017 premiere. One can only hope, right?

So tell me everyone! What are your thoughts on this exciting news?
