From references to Sam Smith and Sir Mix-a-lot, to a disapproving Gorilla father behind bars, Sing is the latest animalistic offering from the guys behind Minions and Despicable Me, Illumination Entertainment.

Jumping on the back of the current flux of animal-based animations, Sing is a clever comedy following a menagerie of mammals, reptiles — and everything in between — as they audition and compete to win a local singing competition. Think of it like a furry version of American Idol.

The movie features a belting cast, with Matthew McConaughey as the bow-tie wearing koala, Buster Moon; Reese Witherspoon as a pink-shirted pig; Seth MacFarlane voicing a red-suited, trilby wearing mouse; and Scarlett Johansson as a punky hedgehog, among others.

Sing is expected to take center stage in theaters December 21, 2016.
