Jennifer Aniston's mother and Beverly Hillbillies actress Nancy Dow has died at the age of 79 after a long illness.
Dow, who has suffered from ill health since a series of strokes in 2011, died at her home surrounded by family and friends, according a statement that was released by Jennifer Aniston and her brother Jon. It reads:
It is with great sadness that my brother John and I announce the passing of our Mother Nancy Dow. She was 79 years old and passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends after enduring a long illness. We ask that our family's privacy be respected as we grieve our loss.
Born in Connecticut as one of six daughters, Dow was an actor whose career peaked in the '60s with her roles in The Beverly Hillbillies and The Wild Wild West. She had two children: John Jr. from her first marriage to pianist Jack Melick, and Jennifer with John Aniston, a Greek American actor.
Dow and Jennifer Aniston have a complicated relationship and they were estranged for nine years, partly because of a book Dow penned entitled From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir. The pair reconciled before Dow's death and The Mirror reports that Aniston visited her mother for the first time in five years just weeks before she passed away.
Dow's final acting credit was for the Canadian movie Pure in 2004.
