Last time we saw Daredevil on screen, Matt Murdock had finally revealed his identity to Karen, Elektra's body had been reclaimed by the Hand and Frank Castle had found closure, burning down his family home. While we know that the Punisher's story will continue in his own solo series, what's less clear is when Season 3 of Daredevil will appear.
The second season of Daredevil was confirmed less than two weeks after the show first premiered on Netflix, and a Jessica Jones follow-up didn't take long to materialise either — but here we are, two months after the Punisher first smashed Murdock's face in and yet we're still waiting for that official Daredevil Season 3 announcement.
Rumours suggest that Marvel's upcoming miniseries, The Defenders, can be blamed for Netflix's reluctance to confirm Season 3 of Daredevil, mainly due to time constraints and scheduling issues. Both Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez have left Daredevil to sign on as showrunners for The Defenders and this combined with Murdock's central role in the new team has left the future of Daredevil Season 3 in question.
What we do know is that The Defenders will begin shooting by the end of this year, so fortunately, we won't have to wait too long for our next Daredevil fix. However, those looking forward to seeing the Devil of Hell's Kitchen in another solo outing will have to be more patient, as Netflix also needs to schedule the likes of Iron Fist and Jessica Jones's sophomore season too.
Whether Daredevil Season 3 finally arrives in 2017 or 2018, fans have already begun theorising what could happen next in the life of everyone's favourite blind vigilante. While there's a chance that Elektra's resurrection could be on the cards, the one big name that fans are currently throwing around is Bullseye, the deadly marksman who ended Karen Page's life in the comics.
Sound familiar? That's because Bullseye was also the main villain of the terrible Fox movie adaptation that starred Ben Affleck in the role of Daredevil. Cox has successfully managed to rescue the reputation of Murdock on the TV show, so let's hope lightning will strike twice and a new actor can erase the memory of Colin Farrell's Bullseye in Season 3 of Daredevil.
In case you need a reminder, here he is; Colin Farrell's Bullseye, in all of his glory.
