It's no secret that often actors find themselves starring in more than Franchise, but more often than not, we see actors who've taken a liking to the Young Adult genre (how can you not tbh?), and find themselves in more than one YA Franchise or Television Show. As a little #ThrowbackThursday, let's take a relaxing stroll down memory lane, and have a look at some of the actors who have been instrumental in bringing some of our favourite YA characters to life, more than once.
Academy Award winning actress, Emma Thompson, is known for an entire bevvy of roles over her long career in Hollywood, but to younger audiences, might be best known for her roles in the Harry Potter franchise and Beautiful Creatures. Playing Professor Sybil Trelawney in the Harry Potter franchise, Thompson donned a long messy wig, thick-rimmed glasses and a "quirky" style of dress to play the professor of Divination for the big screen. A few years later, Thompson would completely transform again, going for an altogether more sleek and polished look for her role as dark castor Sarafine Duchannes in Beautiful Creatures.
Dom Sherwood is fast finding fame in Hollywood, managing to snag the main role in Freeform's Shadowhunters as Jace Wayland, and the love interest in Taylor Swifts 'Style' video. Before this, Sherwood was most well known for his shining portrayal of Moroi-Vampire Christian Ozera in 2014's Vampire Academy. The blonde, slicked back look of Jace Wayland is worlds away from Christian Ozera's dark and brooding locs, nevertheless the characters do have their similarities in sarcasm and witty comebacks - something Sherwood does an excellent job of portraying.
Zoey Deutch is an actress most well known for her roles in the CW's short-lived Ringer, but she's also had significant roles in 3 YA Films. In 2013, she dyed her dark locs strawberry blonde to play ice-princess and all round mean girl, Emily Asher in Beautiful Creatures. Although a small role, it became significantly more noteworthy when she was then cast in the 2014's Vampire Academy as Rose - the smart-mouthed, quick-witted badass Dhamphir and protagonist in Richelle Mead's 6 book series.
The roles, both so grossly different, showed the diverse range of the young actress, even more so as she embarks on a journey to portray her 3rd YA character (you go girl!) later this year in Before I Fall. Deutch will play Samantha Kingston, the protagonist in the upcoming movie.
Since Freeform's Shadowhunters has completely blown up, most people likely know Kat McNamara for her role as newbie-Shadowhunter Clary Fray. But little did you know she also played Sonya in The Scorch Trials - the sequel to The Maze Runner - a role that required her to dye her naturally auburn locs, platinum blonde. She will reprise her role when The Death Cure returns to shooting.
Jamie Campbell Bower
JCB is probably known equally for his roles in both The Twilight Saga and The Mortal Instruments. Although both characters are blonde bombshells, JCB left the platinum, wholly dead look aside after his role as Caius in The Twilight Saga, switching it out for a much more relaxed look for his role as Jace in The Mortal Instruments movie. Platinum blonde hair became dirty blonde, bad-boy locs, long overly large robes, became tight fitting leather pants and matching jacket and of course the biggest change? He was covered with a hell of a lot of tattoos! (you'll know these as Runes!) Holy transformation!
Marie Avgeropoulos is an actress probably most well known for role as Octavia in the CW's The 100, but what you might not have known, is that she also held a small role in the first Percy Jackson film! There aren't many pictures of her role in the film, but that coupled with The 100 makes two YA projects, and earns her a spot on this list.
Eerily like Marie, Harmon has also had a small role in the first Percy Jackson film, before graduating onto the CW's The 100, where he plays John Murphy. As with Marie's scene, there aren't many pictures of his small role in Percy Jackson, but if you want to check him out, you have an entire array of stills from The 100 and his character from Continuum.
Robert Pattinson is arguably one of the most famous faces known for playing two roles in YA franchises. He first graced our screens as Cedric Diggory, captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team & competitor in the Triwizard Tournament in the Harry Potter franchise. He returned later as the glittering, brooding Vampire Edward Cullen in the The Twilight Saga, to completely blow our minds with the differences in the two characters. The stark difference between the two characters has led to a plethora of memes and jokes, but nevertheless, Pattinson shall remain one of our favs!
Chloe Moretz is probably most well known for her role in the Kick Ass franchise, for which we adore her. But in 2014, Moretz took on the role of Mia in the big screen adaptation of If I Stay. The movie received mixed reviews, but that didn't stop her continuting on the YA trend. Earlier this year she played the role of Cassie Sullivan in The 5th Wave movie, intended to be apart of a franchise. It's unlikely we'll get a sequel, but Moretz' performance can't be faulted.
Phoebe Tonkin is probably most well known for her role as Hayley in both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, but before she got her role in TVD, she played Faye Chamberlain in The Secret Circle. Though the show didn't last long (only one season *sobs*), like The Vampire Diaries, it is based upon a series of books written by the woman responsible for TVD, L.J.Smith. Talk about coincidences!
Shailene Woodley has famously starred as the lead in both The Fault In Our Stars and The Divergent Series. TFIOS saw her chop off her beautiful golden locs, to play the protagonist Hazel Grace Lancaster, opposite Ansel Elgort's Augustus Waters. Divergent saw her transform herself into the ultimate YA heroine, as she continues to slay the role of Tris. She'll continue playing the character for the next movie in the series, Allegiant Part 1.
In complete parallel to Woodley, Ansel Elgort has also had roles in both TFIOS and The Divergent Series. Famously known for playing Caleb in Divergent - Woodley's brother, and then her love interest, Augustus Waters in TFIOS, Ansel Elgort is no stranger to the YA genre. He's done a brilliant job with Caleb, and stole our hearts and our ability to "even" with his portrayal of Gus. Hands up if you sobbed watching TFIOS?
Saiorse Ronan is a wonderfully talented actress who has had roles in a number of movies, but even she has a penchant for YA movies. With roles in both The Host and How I Live Now as main characters, like Woodley, she's a true YA leading lady.
