X-Men Apocalypse has been the movie of the weekend, and if you haven't seen it yet I highly recommend it! Is it the highlight of the franchise? No, but it's a very fun installment of these wonderful characters!
Every time a new superhero film comes out one thing fan are always curious of is how the costumes will be translated from comics to the big screen. X-Men has always been unique with their costumes because they always avoid the colorful and unique individual costumes of each character, and instead turning towards the black leather outfits. However, the newest installment seems to be finally coming around to embrace the colorful outfits.
So here is an installment of "Who Wore it Best?" Comic Book, or Big Screen?
**Minor Spoilers to Follow**
As the film's main villain, Apocalypse was truly a difficult character to convert from cartoon and comic to a lifelike big screen character.
Oscar Isaac brings great life into the character, and nails the voice! Even though early images of Apocalypse were received extremely negatively by fans, as it had a pink hue to it, the version that made the final cut was pretty impressive!

As with most comic book films, Xavier had several different costumes throughout the story, the most iconic one being the one from the end of the film that included his new bald head! After three films we finally got to see Xavier lose his hair, and McAvoy as a bald man! The way they introduced it was pretty clever too...

Magneto has been an anchor of the X-Men film franchise since it' beginning sixteen years ago, and through all these years we've seen many variations of his costume, and the one from the original trilogy is most true to the comic variation.
Even though he was less "Magneto" and more "Horsemen" in Apocalypse, the new costume is still pretty sweet, and included a much cooler helmet than his past two films.

One of the most iconic characters that was set to appear in this film was Archangel, the Horsemen of Apocalypse. Even though he had only previously a glorified cameo in The Last Stand, Angel had to have an important role in Apocalypse because he's the most iconic Horsemen in the comics.
Angel's costume, and metal wings, seem to be a mix of a few variations of his comic character. The metal wings come from his transformation into the Horsemen of Death, and the wings did not disappoint...even though we didn't get the iconic blue face, (presumably because there were too many blue characters already!)

Possibly the most anticipated character of the film, Psylocke's costume looks like it came straight out of the comics! It goes to prove that costumes can be translated to the big screen! Hopefully Psylocke will be returning to the future X-Men franchise!

Even though his cameo was short, (and he didn't even speak!) Logan's cameo in Apocalypse was just enough! We witnessed Jean release him from the Weapon X facility and he ran out into the snow. My favorite part was the iconic helmet and gear he was wearing that was a tribute, and callout, to the getup he had during his Weapon X days.

One of my favorite moments of the film was the Danger Room where Mystique begins training the new generation of X-Men. Their iconic costumes were all callbacks to comic book variations!
Cyclops' was sporting his 'X' badge on his chest, and a new visor which is a great upgrade from the sunglasses he wore the rest of the film.

Like the rest of the kids Jean used one of the flight suits they luckily found on their way to the climactic fight with Apocalypse, and was later given a new costume at the end of the film as she begins training with Mystique. I love the blue and yellow as it ties the costumes in from both the comics but also First Class.

Unfortunately Jubilee was cut from the majority of the film to bring it down to a more reasonable time frame, however, the few scenes we had with her were great and I hope she comes back in an upcoming sequel!
Her costume is not only a throwback to the comics, but to the 90s cartoon where Jubilee became the newest X-Men, and a cult favorite!

Another original character to return as their younger self was Storm, this time set as a thief in Africa and the first recruitment of Apocalypse.
Storm had two different looks in the film, the first as a Horsemen of Apocalypse, and the second as she also begins training with Mystique and the New X-Men. As you can see her second costume strongly resembles her comic counterpart, (aside from the cleavage coming out!)

In a unique turn of events Mystique decides to stay at the Institute to help train the next generation of X-Men. Instead of staying in her iconic blue and naked form she dons a white and blue X-Men costume. The decision to do this is a great one as Mystique was hardly naked in the comics like she was in the original trilogy.

Another character that fans have been dying to see come back to the franchise has been Nightcrawler, after he was arguably the best part of X2!
There's no question that Kurt is an important member of the team, and it's really exciting to see him finally receive some recognition! I absolutely loved his costume at the end of the film, and as his part of the New X-Men in his iconic red, white and black suit looks pretty awesome!

Peter "Quicksilver" Maximoff makes his second installment in the X-Men franchise, and after his loved scene in Days of Future Past, and he didn't disappoint in Apocalypse!
It is surprising, however, that Peter stuck around with the X-Men instead of leaving with his father Magneto, but to see him training as an X-Men is pretty freaking exciting too, and even though I love the 'X' on his new costume, I do think there's a missed opportunity with having his iconic white lightning down his chest. Maybe they were worried about it being too similar to CW's successful Flash series and his gold lightning?

Are you a fan of the X-Men superhero costumes, or are you going to miss their classic black leather? Even though Apocalypse is receiving mixed reviews, and it's not the best installment of the franchise it's still worth the watch! If you haven't seen it yet check it out!
