When writer/director Shane Black announced he'd be working on a modern live-action adaptation of Doc Savage, attention immediately turned to the important matter of who could fill such legendary shoes, with one standout contender: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
The wrestler-turned-actor was born to play the Man of Bronze, a sentiment clearly shared by the man himself, who today took to his Instagram page to confirm he'll be tackling the lead role.
A Superhuman Weirdo?
Along with a picture posted of him seated casually with the movie's director Black and the writing team, Johnson added a detailed breakdown of his admiration for the character, as well as his humorous motivation for accepting the role:
His heightened senses are beyond comprehension. He can even identify a women's perfume from half a mile away. He is literally the master of everything. But here's the #1 reason I'm excited to become Doc Savage.. HE'S A F*CKING HILARIOUS WEIRDO!
So as well as being a bit of a weirdo, what else does Doc Savage offer?
The comic book character made his debut in 1933. Named Clark Savage, Jr., he was a scientist and explorer (among other things) who was trained by his father and a team of scientists to develop borderline superhuman abilities. He was even the inspiration for Superman!
Black's feature film will be set in the 1930s, with filming to begin in early 2017.
Do you think Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will make a good Doc Savage?
