Heroes, villains, and everything in-between... there are some actors who are destined to be wearing spandex and fighting for a cause. However, fate has not yet caught up with some actor's potential. In the quest to pair the right actor with the right heroic character many great talents have been overlooked, overshadowed, or simply missed. This is a short list of my favorite actors who belong in a superhero movie, but have not yet had the opportunity.
Also, I am fan casting them as the character I think would best fit them.
9. Vladimir Kulich
This may very well be the manliest man's man to ever walk the earth (or at the very least wield an axe). He was born to play a viking... speaking of which... have you seen the History Channel show Vikings?
I think Marvel missed a great chance to actually have semi-Norse actors play, I don't know, Norse characters. At any rate Mr. Kulich would have made a fantastic Odin. But since that ship has sailed, I think another great choice would be...
Do yourself a favor and go watch that animated Planet Hulk movie (if you haven't already done so). Then you might recognize this giant rock creature from Thor: The Dark World. He his from a race called Kronans, and yes they are space rock giants that dress like gladiators. One of them befriends Hulk in Planet Hulk. Do you see where I'm going with this?
Thor: Ragnarok supposedly is going to have some Planet Hulk threads in it, so I could see them throwing old Korg in there. It would certainly make my day, and I think Vladimir Kulich is just the guy to deliver the voice.
8. Armie Hammer
Funny thing, he actually doesn't want to play a superhero... So he says. I think if a good role was offered he might rethink his position. And when a studios write the checks everyone suddenly gets a change of heart. But who should he play?
White Lantern: Kyle Rayner
Kyle Rayner started as a Green Lantern, then he became a Blue Lantern, then back to Green, and then everything. But eventually he became the White Lantern. I think he would be a great character to expand the cosmic side of the DCEU.
7. Taye Diggs
This guy is super talented. You may know him from Equilibrium, Rent, or Will & Grace. Oh yeah, he also voiced Black Panther in some cartoons. But I think he needs to make the switch over to DC and become...
Green Lantern: John Stewart
Again with the expansion into the cosmic realms through the Green Lantern Corps I think John Stewart is a much needed character, and Taye Diggs is a fantastic fit.
6. Ruth Wilson
Stop what you are doing and go watch Luther on Netflix. You can read the rest of this article later. Ready, go.
You're back. Great! Ruth Wilson was brilliant, right? I KNOW! And I think she would be a perfect villain in the DCEU... none other than...
Ruth Wilson can pull of the dark and manipulative aspects of Poison Ivy while remaining alluring and mysterious. I think it is a match made in Valhalla.
5. Asa Butterfield
It really is only a matter of time. Granted, I think he would have been a decent Peter Parker, but there is someone else who is deserving of a great actor to interpret them on the big screen...
Robin: Tim Drake
We have already established that there was a Robin in the DCEU, but there will also be more. And this one makes sense. My first pick for Asa would be Damian Wayne, but I think he is getting a little old for that one. However Tim Drake is a pretty solid fit. He has incredible acting chops for his age and very well could step into the universe with Batfleck and his rogues gallery.
4. Morgan Freeman
Face it... there is room at every table for Morgan Freeman. You just have to invite him, right? He only ever makes a film better by showing up, and Marvel wouldn't do too bad getting him to play this character...
If you understand the hierarchy of Marvel deities, then you might know that there are four at the next-to-the-top rung. They are Eternity, Infinity, Oblivion, and Death. Speculation says they have already been featured in the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy. There was a statue built into the floor that depicted the four of them surrounding the six Infinity Stones. Check it out below.
Also, there was a slight hint at Eternity in the psychedelic super shrink scene of Ant Man. Anyhow, Morgan Freeman needs to be one of the deities of the MCU. That's a fact.
3. Emily Blunt
She was absolutely incredible in All You Need is Kill (Edge of Tomorrow (Live Die Repeat)). I mean, she was fierce, compelling, motivated, and gripping. That is exactly the kind of actor that should play...
Captain Marvel: Carol Danvers
We know she is coming and it is going to be legendary. Marvel executive producer Kevin Feige said Carol Danvers would be one of the most powerful characters in the MCU, so she needs to be played by someone who could believably hold that kind of power. Emily Blunt seems like an obvious choice to me.
2. Michael Wincott
WHERE IS YOUR JUSTICE UNIVERSE?!?!?!?! This guy should have several superhero movies notched in his belt.
Alright, I know most of you are scratching your heads and thinking "Where do I know that guy from?" Well, let's start with some of the greatest villain roles in the 90's and beyond: Guy of Gisborne: Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Rochefort: The Three Musketeers, Top Dollar: The Crow, Armand Dorleac: The Count of Monte Cristo, Elgyn: Alien: Resurrection, Scroop: Treasure Planet, and so on. His voice is something to behold and tremble before. If you can't recall what he sounds like, here is a good compilation...
so what's my pick for his role?
Beta Ray Bill
I want him to play the good guy for once, and what better way for him to show off that epic voice than voicing the Last Son of Korbin? After James Gunn just showed off this picture of him holding Mjolnir and then saying Thor would not be in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 one can speculate that he may be about to introduce the goat-headed Thor lookalike himself. Boy I hope I'm right!
I know. I know. "That isn't Beta Ray Bill's hammer." OK! I know what Stormbreaker looks like, thank you very much. Calm down you nerd. I still say that could be a hint. Let a fan dream a little, alright. Sheesh.
1. Daniel Day-Lewis
Let's be clear... Mr Lewis doesn't "need" anything else in his career, but he sure could bring some sweetness to the superhero genre. And I've got the perfect role for him to step into...
Come on, you know I'm right about this one. Can you picture him throwing down with the likes of the Batfleck? COME ON!!!!! Everything is perfect here... except the mohawk. We could do without the mohawk.
So what do you think of my list? Do you love it? Do you hate it? Do you need cake? I know it was a little more in favor of DC, but that is because the DCEU is still very young, and I'm rooting for it just as much as I am rooting for the MCU!
