Poltergeist is regularly considered one of the most unnerving, chilling and check-under-your-bed-terrifying movies of all time. The supernatural tale — written by Hollywood heavyweight Steven Spielberg — was also a commercial success, earning $121.7 million at the box office from a modest $10 million budget.
The original spawned an entire franchise, including three feature films (the latest being last year's reboot) and a TV series. But where are the cast now, and what have they been up to in the 34 years since its release on June 4, 1982?
Before we take a look, it is worth mentioning the infamous and tragic "Poltergeist curse," which makes reference to the premature deaths of a number of people involved in the film. Let's check out the cast below:
1. Craig T. Nelson As Steven Freeling
Nelson has had a distinguished career, winning an Emmy for his performance as Hayden Fox in Coach, as well as voicing Mr. Incredible in The Incredibles (2004).
2. JoBeth Williams As Diane Freeling
A familiar face in the entertainment industry, the 67-year-old has been nominated for three Emmys, and was even nominated for an Oscar for her directorial debut, 1994's short film On Hope.
3. Oliver Robins As Robbie Freeling
Robins quit acting four years later, in 1986. He returned to the industry as a writer, scripting the movies Eating L.A (1999), Dumped (2000) and Roomies (2004).
4. Zelda Rubinstein As Tangina Barrons
A fervent activist throughout her life, Zelda's most iconic role was in Poltergeist, although she did make appearances in the series Picket Fences and the Poltergeist spinoff series, Poltergeist: The Legacy.
5. Dominique Dunne As Dana Freeling
The actress was just 22 when she was horrendously murdered by her boyfriend the same year the movie was released.
In 1982, she also appeared in the TV movie The Shadow Riders as well as a number of TV shows.
6. Heather O'Rourke as Carol Anne Freeling
The child star who played Carol Anne Freeling also prematurely died, the result of a cardiac arrest six years after the film's release, when she was only 12-years-old.
Prior to her death, she also went on to appear in two follow-up movies, Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986) and Poltergeist III (1988).
