June 1st marks the 25th anniversary of the first publication of the book 1 in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon . On this World Outlander Day, and a bit over the first half of its second season, Outlander has been renewed for a third season by Starz. As if getting one more chapter into the lives of Jamie and Claire Fraser wasn't enough, Starz has also picked up a fourth season.
Outlander's leading actors Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, also took to Twitter to comment on the great news.
As did the one who started it all:
#OutlanderSeason2 depicts the events from 'Dragonfly in Amber', while #OutlanderSeason3 and 4 will follow 'Voyager' and 'Drums of Autumn', respectively. In a statement, Starz CEO, Chris Albrecht, praised Diana's and producer's Ronald D. Moore, saying that "there are no better storytellers for Outlander than this team". He went on stating:
"Outlander is like nothing seen before on television. From its depiction of a truly powerful female lead character, to the devastating decimation of the Highlander way of life, to what is a rarely seen genuine and timeless love story, it is a show that not only transports the viewer, but inspires the passion and admiration of its fans."
This renewal shouldn't come as a surprise, considering Outlander's second season premiered with 1.5 million viewers, which is more than double what the series's premiere had last year, and the best season premiere ever on Starz.
For those who have the Starz app, episode 209 will be available as of tomorrow, June 2nd.
Outlander airs every Saturday, on Starz.
