Late in April, news broke that Alicia Vikander will be playing Lara Croft in the upcoming reboot of Tomb Raider, overtaking rumored contenders Daisy Ridley, Emilia Clarke and Gemma Arterton in bagging the heroine's on-screen role. As we all already know, the new movie is adapted from the iconic game and was first immortalized on the big screen by Angelina Jolie in 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider:
With Vikander as the new leading lady, and with Norwegian director Roar Uthaug at the helm of MGM's action-packed blockbuster, the excitement surrounding the project is astonishing. And understandably so — it's going to be awesome!
Camilla Luddington speaks out about Alicia Vikander's casting in Tomb Raider
In particular, speculation is rife over what storyline Alicia Vikander will be bringing to life as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. And while (sadly) details are yet to emerge, her upcoming performance has already garnered an encouraging nod from the woman behind the Lara Croft of the 2013 reboot game and its sequel Rise of the Tomb Raider, Camilla Luddington.
Recently, the actress spoke to EW and expressed her approval of the Vikander casting choice as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, saying:
“I feel like with any Lara Croft, someone is always taking over that role. Of course I would’ve loved to do the live-action movie version of it, but she’s Alicia and she’s amazing. So I’m excited to see her interpretation too of the game.”
Although the on-screen adaptation will be going forward without Luddington, she's totally fine with it, revealing:
"I still feel very present within the gaming world, so it doesn't feel like someone has taken the role from me. I'm excited to see somebody else to step into the boots and what they do for the role. There will always be new Laras."
But for now, are you excited to see Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider?
