Fans of director Zack Snyder's dark take on the DC Universe are in luck, because an extended R-rated version of Batman v Superman is headed for home release.

The trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition dropped earlier today, revealing plenty of footage that got axed from the film's theatrical release. Most notably, fans get their first look at actress Jena Malone's mystery character, who was ultimately cut from the film.

Batman v Superman enthusiasts will recognize most of the moments in the trailer, though the new cut contains an additional 30 minutes of footage to clock in at a runtime of 182 minutes. Malone's inclusion is the most obvious addition to the film, though its unknown how much her character will actually appear in the extended cut. It was long rumored that she was to play Barbara Gordon, who fans know as the superheroine Batgirl before she was paralyzed by the Joker and became a tech specialist under the name Oracle.

Luckily, the Ultimate Edition release will include more than just additional footage. The take-home version will be loaded with special features that delve into the background of the film's characters, as well as the production process. Additionally, the Blu-ray release will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack remixed for home viewing, providing fans an experience that mimics a theatrical environment.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition will be available on on Digital HD on June 28, with Blu-ray, DVD and Ultra HD Blu-ray physical releases on July 19. What do you want to see in the extended R-rated cut? Who do you think Jena Malone plays in the film? Let us know in the comments.
