Continuing his busy streak, T.J. Miller has been cast in Steven Spielberg's upcoming dystopian thriller Ready Player One. The film will be an adaptation of Ernest Cline's sci-fi novel of the same name.
Miller is perhaps best known for his role as Erlich Bachman in HBO series Silicon Valley, and his most recent appearance on the big screen in surprise blockbuster Deadpool. His character Jack Hamer/Weasel was responsible for many of the laugh-out-loud moments in the R-rated superhero hit, including that infamous avocado scene. Miller has also appeared in Unstoppable, Gulliver's Travels, Rock of Ages and Transformers: Age of Extinction. Phew!
Ready Player One focuses on a dystopian future with a virtual universe called OASIS. Upon his death, the founder of OASIS launches a contest to hunt down a hidden Easter Egg within his game, with the winner receiving his entire fortune. The novel was an overwhelming success, becoming a New York Times Best Seller and receiving positive reviews.
Miller will play the role of online troll i-R0k and will be joining an already star-studded cast that includes Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse), Simon Pegg, Ben Mendelsohn and Oscar-winner Mark Rylance.
So with another major casting announcement, a legendary director like Spielberg attached to it and a bestselling novel as the source material, Ready Player One is shaping up to be quite the biggie.
It is hoped that filming will begin around June, with a slated release date of March 30, 2018. Both Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow are behind the production, as well as Spielberg's Amblin Partners. With a lot of people already talking about this film and a loyal inbuilt fanbase thanks to the novel, it's fair to expect great things. So roll on, Ready Player One!
